Terms of Service

The terms FloatChart is provided under

Effective 1 September 2026 · Applies to floatchart.com, app.floatchart.com and floatchart.app

FloatChart is a planning tool: boards that lay themselves out from the dependencies you describe, kept in files you own. These terms are written to be read. Where a sentence has legal weight, it says so plainly rather than hiding it.

1. Who we are

FloatChart is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], doing business as FloatChart, a company registered in [STATE], United States (“FloatChart”, “we”). You can reach us at hello@floatchart.com.

2. The agreement

By creating an account, opening a share link, or using the service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you use FloatChart on behalf of a company, you confirm you may bind it, and “you” means the company. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

3. Accounts and workspaces

  • You may use FloatChart without an account: boards stay in your browser only. An account keeps them in the cloud and lets you share and work with others.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in to yourself. Tell us at once if you think it has been used without your permission.
  • A workspace is shared by its members. Owners and admins can add, disable and remove members, set sharing policy, and see an audit of those actions. Editors can change every file in the workspace; viewers can read them. Choose roles accordingly — a person you invite as an editor can change your files.
  • You must be at least 16, or the age at which you can consent to these terms where you live.

4. Your content

  • It is yours. Everything you put into FloatChart — files, boards, questions, notes, labels, imports — stays yours. We claim no ownership of it.
  • You give us the licence we need to run the service: to store your content, show it to you and to the people you share it with, make copies for backups and version history, and process it for features you invoke (exports, pictures, AI). Nothing more.
  • You are responsible for having the right to put content into FloatChart, including anything you import from other tools.
  • We do not train models on your content, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
  • You can take it out at any time: every file exports to .floatchart, .fcx, Mermaid, PNG, SVG and PDF from inside the app.

5. Share links

A share link is a capability: anyone who holds it has the access the link grants (view, comment or edit) unless the link requires sign-in. Forwarding a link forwards that access. You are responsible for who you give links to; you can turn any link off at any time. Questions and notes you mark internal are removed on the server before a file leaves for a guest, and nothing a guest sends back can delete them — but a link with edit access lets its holder change everything else in the file. Version history is the way back.

6. AI features

  • AI features are optional and run only when you invoke them.
  • Bring your own key: when you enter your own provider key, your browser sends the board and your request directly to that provider under your own account and that provider's terms. FloatChart is not in that path and never sees the key.
  • FloatChart AI (hosted): when offered and switched on for a workspace, requests go through our server to a provider we name in the Privacy Policy. Usage is metered in credits; included credits reset each billing period; purchased credits are prepaid, non-refundable except where the law requires, and expire twelve months after purchase. We do not store the content of hosted requests beyond what the feature you invoked needs (chat history you can see and delete), and we keep usage metadata for billing.
  • Output from an AI model is a suggestion. It can be wrong. Every change it makes to a board is one undo step, and you decide what to keep.
  • The provider’s rules travel with the feature. FloatChart AI runs on Anthropic’s API, and Anthropic’s Usage Policy applies to everything you do with it through us, exactly as it applies to us. You agree not to use FloatChart AI for anything that policy prohibits. We may refuse, throttle or suspend AI access for a workspace that does, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
  • Your own key is your own agreement. When you bring a key, your requests go from your browser to that provider under your account and their terms. Their policy governs, not this clause — we are not in that path, we meter nothing, and we bill nothing.
  • The assistant is scoped to diagrams. It is built to create, change and explain planning boards and data models, and it will decline requests that are not about one. That is a deliberate restriction, not a fault.
  • Where FloatChart AI is available. Our provider does not serve every country, so neither can our hosted AI. Where we cannot serve it we say so and everything else in FloatChart keeps working — and you can still use your own key if your provider serves you.

7. Plans, payment and cancellation

  • The free plan has limits (files, boards per file, shared files) that we may change with notice. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually, per seat, through Stripe. We do not see or store your card number.
  • Prices are shown before you pay, exclusive of tax where tax applies. You can change or cancel a subscription at any time from the app; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period and we do not refund partial periods except where the law requires.
  • If payment fails we will retry and tell you; after repeated failure a workspace returns to the free plan's limits, with your files intact and exportable.

8. Acceptable use

Do not use FloatChart to break the law, to infringe someone else's rights, to store or share content you have no right to, to probe or overload the service, to circumvent plan limits, or to harass anyone through shared files or comments. We may suspend an account that does, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.

If you use FloatChart AI, section 6 adds one more: Anthropic’s Usage Policy applies to your use of it, and a breach of that policy is a breach of these terms.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep FloatChart available and fast, and we deploy carefully, but we do not promise uninterrupted service on any plan and there is no service-level agreement unless one is written into a separate contract with you. We may change features, and we will not remove your ability to export your content. If we ever discontinue the service, you will have at least 60 days' notice to export.

10. Ending the agreement

You can delete your account at any time from the app; that deletes your files, versions and workspace memberships, after which they cannot be recovered. We may end the agreement if you breach it, with notice where practicable. Sections 4, 11, 12 and 13 survive.

11. Disclaimers

FloatChart is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Plans, dates and dependencies drawn on a board are yours to check; the tool computes a layout, not a schedule commitment.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, FloatChart will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars if you paid nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where they do not, they apply only as far as the law allows.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE], United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before either of us starts a formal dispute, we agree to try to resolve it by email for 30 days. Courts in [STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either party may seek an injunction anywhere to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will show a notice in the app or email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect; continuing to use FloatChart after that is acceptance. The effective date at the top always says which version you are reading.
